We are pleased to inform you that Roberto Held Otero has joined Avion Express Malta as the Head of Business Development for the Americas’ region.
Roberto is an executive with over 22 years of experience in different industries including Banking, Capital Markets, Aviation, Retail and Digital. He was Chief Financial Officer of Avianca Holdings during 2016-2019. Roberto has gained strong experience while leading teams across different geographies with Senior (C-Level) responsibilities focused on execution, corporate strategy, business development, finance, team management, deal structuring, financial control, innovation, M&A, strategic alliances, and product design. He has graduated from Executive MBA and has university degrees in Industrial Engineering and Financial Law.
Roberto shall use his established experience, know-how and a reliable network to facilitate seasonal lease-ins and leas-outs of aircraft and seasonal swaps of crew members from and to the Americas’ region and also to develop long-term business relationship between Avion Express Malta and the carriers of the Americas’ region.
Roberto is half Colombian, half German. He speaks Spanish, German and English (and now he hopes to learn some Lithuanian!). Married for 18 years and with 2 kids.
“I’ve been in the financial industry, as well as in aviation, retail, and consumer goods. Love to learn and study, that’s why I have a post-graduate degree in Financial Law and an Executive MBA. I’m a golfer and a runner, trying to run a 42K marathon one of these days. Love to cook and to travel. I’m also an entrepreneur, mentor, and board member”, Roberto tells us about himself.
We`ve asked our new Head of Business Development, what is the craziest thing that he has ever done or experienced that he would like to share, and this is his answer:
“Well…, recently I travelled from Colombia (in Latin America) to Lithuania for an interview in the middle of a pandemic… I think that classifies within your question. I am very glad I did it! I can also share that in my previous job I went around the globe in just three to four days, having meetings in three continents and sleeping basically on the planes! That is why aviation is so exciting! One time I had to sleep in the cabin rest space (with the proper authorizations).”
Welcome to the team, Roberto!
